These pieces were painted in the fall and winter of 2019, before the pandemic struck. They are externalizations of emotion and turmoil: within our psyche, inside our bodies, and in the natural world. There is a longing for appeasement, a desire to be released from anxiety and pressure. All of the works here represent some form of confinement and desire to escape. But confinement will eventually be required of us to remain safe, and would take on a much more literal meaning in the spring.
